Feasibility study through design and construction administration for a 32,303sf addition increased the student capacity to 734 of this 61-year-old, 58,654sf elementary school located on a sloped 9.5 acre site in Bethesda. The two-story addition consists of fifteen (15) standard classrooms, a large instructional room, an elevator, and individual rooms for instrumental music, dual purpose, staff development, the assistant principal, building services, office supplies, and general storage. The existing multi-purpose room was expanded along with a small one-story expansion at the front of the school to two existing standard classrooms for Kindergarten. A security vestibule created in the school’s main entrance included modifications to the Administration space. The addition has a “green” roof and was angled to parallel staff parking while maximizing play areas.
