Recreating the Banneker Cabin in Baltimore County proved to be one of the most challenging historic structure projects for the Rubeling team. The building no longer existed and was designed based upon unearthed artifacts. Benjamin Banneker was a free black man in the early 1700’s, and an author, astronomer, and inventor. Baltimore County and the Friends of Benjamin Banneker Society celebrated his life and contributions by rebuilding his 14’x16’ home as a museum exhibit. The reconstruction features root cellar, stone chimney, 7’ height ceilings, unfinished loft, and rubble stone foundation.
